GUIDE TO WORKSTATION ASSESSMENTS

Quick Check

A 15 minute check with the consultant using a checklist to briefly assess the employees desk, chair, monitor, telephone and associated workspace.

Can be used:

  • following a Working Safely Presentation
  • following a move or relocation
  • for new starters

These assessments:

  • are not suitable for people with an injury or medical condition which is currently impacting on their ability to work
  • do not take into account all aspects of the employee’s work ie the full range of tasks being undertaken, time spent on each task etc which can help to identify other issues outside the physical workspace.

Standard Workstation Assessment

The standard workstation assessment takes approximately 30 minutes, during which our consultants:

  • identify the key tasks and duties performed by the employee
  • clarify relevant health information
  • customise the workstation to suit the employee, through any appropriate changes to the desk, chair or other work structures
  • provide general advice on safe working practices.

These assessments are not usually suitable for people with an injury or medical condition which is currently impacting on their ability to work.

Specialist Workstation Assessment

These assessments are designed specifically for situations where a particular injury or medical condition has been identified, which is impacting on the employee in the workplace, and therefore on their ability to undertake their normal work duties.  Taking approximately one hour, this assessment, provided by a suitably qualified consultant, includes:

  • provision of specific educative advice and relevant stretching exercises to assist in the workplace management of the identified health concern.
  • practical education and advice in relation to the specific health concern, including information on body mechanics and appropriate management of the health concern in the workplace.
